If you cry a lot, often complain, feel angry or depressed, your emotions are out of balance. You have difficulties keeping your emotions under control, which makes making rational decisions close to impossible. To function well in daily life it’s important to learn to keep your emotions in check. But how can you show pain or anger without blaming others? How can you enter a relationship without losing your self-control? First of all you should figure out which emotions exactly are bothering you and why. Only then you can try to deal with them. Here are some of the more common strong emotions and ways to deal with them.
Frustration is a typical reaction to the situation where you are asking too much of yourself without making enough time for yourself. Therefore it’s important to take the time to find out which activities you genuinely like and mean the most to you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, you don’t have to do everything on your own. Try to think in terms of opportunities an challenges instead of obligations.
Agony and hate
We can see these very strong emotions as subdivisions of pain and anger. Generally anger is an indication that something needs to be discussed as soon a possible. As soon as you feel hurt or mad, first check your emotions. If you are sure they are real and appropriate, then go and talk to the person that made you feel that way. Tell him or her how you feel and why you feel angry or hurt. Talk about what both of you can do to turn this situation around.
If things are becoming too much and you have difficulties pointing out priorities, simply try to make a to-do list and rank the items according their priority. Always ask yourself why items are on your list and see if you can eliminate some of them already. Try to take things step by step and cross out each item you have completed. Don’t be tempted however to immediately add every new task to this list, most of them can be tackled right away.
If you feel washed-out, this is generally an indication you focus too much of your energy on one thing. It sucks the life right out of you. Try to take some time off for yourself, relax and make fun. This will prevent you from getting a burn-out or wearing yourself out, whether it is mentally or physically.
