Summer 2010: All Jewelry Trends Revealed

jewelry trends for spring summer 2010

by Femita

Alright, now that you know which clothes and what colors to wear this summer, let’s take a glance at the jewelry trends. In spite of the current financial crisis, we witness a cheerful optimism in this season’s jewelry. 2010 is all about making a mark with creative, big and bold jewelry.

The statement necklace of 2009 is still very much alive in 2010. The bolder, the better! But to make sure you do it in style, we will list a few possibilities. You can, for example, opt for colorful fantasy jewelries with synthetic beads. Another option is to stick with metallic tones, gold or silver. For those of us who like it more sober, black is the choice of preference. The key terms are multi-strand and layered. For the multiple strands, the so-called bib necklace is an excellent choice. Piled-on pearls are definitely another winner for a more dramatic and theatrical effect.

Long, big, elaborate chandeliers are this spring season’s must haves. For earrings too, colorful, metallic or black is the way to go. You can have them with eclectic and colorful stones, pearls or with metal leaves and discs. Either way, you will not go unnoticed. Oversized hoops can be a good alternative.

Wrists

Same story for bracelets and cuffs. They can get pretty big, even huge, this season and will be bolder than ever. Materials range from metal and stones to colorful plastic. Bangles ruled the runway in all shapes, colors and sizes. Two other striking trends on the runway were ancient warrior-like cuffs and tribal influences. For a more rock and roll look, a stylish bracelet with studs can make a perfect accessory.

Rings are destined to make an impact this year’s spring and summer. We observed two runway trends that will find their way to the streets. On one side gemstone cocktail rings lighten up every outfit. We’re talking about gold or silver  rings with a single huge gem or a cluster of natural or synthetic colored stones. On the other side we have the rough-textured metal warrior princess style rings. A great choice for a more ethnic look.

All in all, we can say SS 2010 jewelry is eclectic, eccentric and collage style. Call it statement jewelry. Jewelry can and should be a highlight of your outfit. However, to avoid looking like a Christmas tree, limit yourself to wearing only two pieces of statement jewelry at a time. And if you go heavy on jewelry, play down your dress a little bit. This will grant your jewelry the attention it deserves.

Which are your favorite pieces for this season? Do you like the ‘big and bold’ trend or do you prefer your jewelry a more subtle addition to your outfit?

Love,
Alyssa
