Bold colors and prints
Summer 2010 is the right time to let go of your safe color beachwear, as this season is all about bright and vivid colors. Prints too are very hot and add some oomph to your beach wardrobe. They can range from really feminine floral prints to wild geometric two-color prints. In addition to this, the ethnic trend found its way from the runway to this season’s swimwear collections, so be prepared to see a lot of exotic and animal prints around.
One-piece swimsuits with cutouts
A must have for this summer season is the monokini or cut-out one-piece swimsuit. When shopping for one, mind that the cutouts are present at the right places for your body type. You want your beach outfit to be flattering and sexy in a mysterious way, not too revealing. Especially trendy are one-pieces with asymmetric cutouts. The cutouts can be more subtle or simply huge, that’s up to you. One-piece swimwear works with more sober as well as vibrant colors.
Deep V-necklines
The deep V-neck links up to the cutout trend. In summer 2010 V front cutouts will plunge way below the bustline or even the waist. Again, the goal is to look sexy without looking like a Las Vegas stripper.
Mismatched bikini tops and bottoms
This one is a bit risky. I only recommend this beachwear statement if you know what you are doing. There is a thin line between a fashionable outfit and a tatty one. At least ask some fashionable friends for a second opinion if you are having doubts about a certain combination.
One-shoulder
If you want to take the asymmetrical design somewhat further, consider buying a one-shoulder piece. It conveys confidence and elegance. In 2010, you’ll come across one-shoulder bikinis, one-piece swimsuits as well as beach cover-ups.
Bandeau bikini tops
I simply love bandeau tops because they make virtually any woman look young and cute, but often they don’t offer enough support for my cup size. Bandeau swimwear comes in many shapes, so you definitely want to try them on first. The twisted bandeau is my season’s favorite!
Vintage
Really a striking trend in many 2010 swimwear collections! From skirted bottoms to classic polka dot and nautical print designs. Keywords are playful and fun. The pin-up look looks flattering on almost any body type.
Details
The beauty is in the detail. Designer swimwear is no exception to that rule. Some striking examples from the runway are ruffles, fringes, strings and gold or silver hardware. Embellishments will be found on tops and bottoms equally and provide you with a romantic and very feminine look. Often decoration will replace the need for accessories.
Sheer fabric cover-ups
Nothing like a beach cover-up for making you feel like a celebrity movie star. Select one with a sheer fabric and beautiful colored print. It’s just so glamorous and romantic at the same time, and all of this in an effortless way. You gotta love it!
What are your favorite trends for swimwear in 2010? For me, that should be animal prints, vintage looks and colorful cover-ups. Looking forward to summer vacation already!

The bandeau on the picture looks so cute! A shame I cannot wear bandeaus because they don’t offer enough support for my breast. For this season I got myself some halter tops with colorful prints and pair them with single-colored bottoms. It takes some puzzling, but very cool when it works out
Hi Pipa, thx for your reaction. I have some good news for you. I am currently working on a new article regarding the right swimswear for different body types. There will be a section dedicated to large bosoms, so make sure you don’t miss it!
