More than ever shoes can make or break an outfit. For a whil now they have dethroned the handbag as most important women’s accessory. We’ll take a look at the new footwear trends for 2011 as well as some exciting reinterpretations of last year’s trends.
Clunky wooden shoes

Shoes with solid wooden soles come in many shapes this season, from platform shoes, wedges and clogs to so-called “flatforms”. The latter are a combination between wedges and flats. This mean they will make you taller without losing comfort as they are high, but not steep platform shoes. Flatforms will come in all shapes, styles and colors. Examples could be seen on the runways of Michael Kors, Philip Lim and Band of Outsiders.
Cowgirl fringes

Cowboy-inspired leather boots and sandals with tassels or fringes were also very prominent on the runways. They look great under summery skirts or skinny jeans.
Strappy shoes

If you’re looking for a flirty, feminine look, strappy shoes are the must-haves for spring/summer 2011. Traditional leather straps have been replaced by shoe laces or fabric straps, creating interesting effects. The runways of Alexander Wang, Christian Dior and Diane von Furstenberg all featured strappy ankle shoes, sometimes with metallic ankle chains.
Multi-colored

The warm weather just asks for some color and this is provided in the form of multi-colored shoes and fun, colorful prints. Expect bright, funky designs and eclectic prints. Take a look at the Christian Louboutin spring/summer 2011 collection for some inspiration.
Brogues

Also called Men’s Oxfords, Brogues look a lot like men’s shoes. Originally designed for country living they have now found their way into the city. This spring/summer they will walk the streets in surprising prints and materials. For an example check Pelle Moda Crescent Satin Oxford Flats.
Kitten heels

A trend that survived from last winter. Kitten heels are characterized by a thin, low heel and pointy toes and look great with retro summer dresses. They offer a glamorous and comfortable alternative to high heels.
